Giving people what they want, instant solutions to their problems is the main driver behind the influx of online information. YOU want to know and YOU want to know NOW!!! Keeping what you know up to date and current. Who doesn’t Google when they need an answer to a question? Intrigue makes the world turn.
Bricks and mortar business allows you to interact with people face to face. You can ask questions so much easier when it’s someone you see on a regular basis. Online businesses only get a few snippets of who their peeps, their tribe or their gang are through blog comments and questions on social media. Analytics might say we’ve had 500 visitors to the website today but who are these people really?
Customer satisfaction and giving a gold star level of service can only be achieved when you really know the heart of your business, in my case it’s you, the readers. I want to know your likes, your dislikes, your fears and your interests through regular interaction. I crave comments and replies to my Facebook posts and blogs. This is the only way I can make sure I cover topics to help you in my newsletters, blogs and online courses.
So I decided I’ll tell you 3 things about me that you probably don’t already know to get you intrigued and then I want to know more about you. Nothing too personal, I have a few questions below to help me gain some insight into your interest in mentoring.
Here are three things about me:
- My first real business mentor was totally accidental. He taught me the value of personal marketing and making people feel connected and special to get them through the doors of our business. Before we had email we used to send out by snail mail a weekly newsletter (yes I had to lick envelopes and stamps, YUK) with all sorts of information people lapped up. Remember, in those days we had only just gotten mobile phones and there was no such thing as texting or the internet. If you were featured in the weekly newsletter you became someone famous in our little world.
- My second business mentor sought me out. I was headhunted to join his organisation. It was kind of reverse targeting. He liked the skills I displayed in the business I was running and thought he could advance me up the ranks further if I was on his team. Needless to say it was very flattering to be offered the role and I lapped it up, taking in everything I could learn from these people who were great at information sharing. The most important thing I learned working here was celebrate your wins. Something they did really really well.
- My third business mentor is a Rock Star (not literally, but well admired in his field and loved by all those who work for him) who I can still today say had the most impact on me and taught me I can do anything I put my mind to. His biggest lesson was the value of mentoring. Guiding me to embrace change and develop programs to make things easier for people. The best part of his mentoring was he set me goals and projects and let me run with them, but he was always there with encouragement and insight if I got stuck at all.
All three of these mentors reinforced and furthered my love of information sharing.
Regular one on one mentoring is all about sharing the real you. As an online mentor I am always looking for new ideas on how to connect with people. Sharing my mentoring journey and thoughts in my weekly newsletters makes them far more personal than anything I write on my blog. That way I know only the truly interested in my story and my products get the juicy musings that I put in email form.
I’m going to ask a favour. Please complete the survey below to give me a bit of insight into you and your mentoring journey. I will be eternally grateful.
