My accidental mentor is a Rock Star!

I think I have met someone completely selfless, what a rare and fabulous quality.

Do you know someone who gives and gives and doesn’t want anything in return?

Well I’m sure she does, she is a businesswoman, but what I like is that she is informative but not pushy.

Would you like someone in your life that fills that need?

As a work from home entrepreneur I am on the look out for ways to connect to the outside world to replace the camaraderie and insights I found in my workmates. After 25 years of learning from others everyday, I need to find new ways of challenging my mind and adding useful knowledge to my bag of tricks.

Having someone outside your everyday circle that you can refer to, who will not think you are off your rocker if you ask pointed questions gives you a sense of calm because they are non judgemental.

Why do I consider her to be an accidental mentor?

The premise of the Barefoot Mentor is based around the three types of mentors.

  1. The Accidental Mentor is where you naturally fall into a sharing relationship where you have a go to person to ask opinions, advice and generally share experiences.
  1. The Targeted Mentor is where you are looking for help with a specific goal and seek out a mentor to take you on a journey with them. These types of relationships are more formal.
  1. And last but not least is the Rock Star Mentor, these are people that you look up to and follow through social media, conferences or on TV.  People like Richard Branson who eagerly imparts his knowledge to others through various forms of media.  They do not have to be megastars, they can be people you have connected with because they have something to say but say it to a mass audience not just to you personally.

I naturally fell into a sharing relationship with this goddess by commenting on a Facebook post that really spoke to me. She made a generous reply, which I was not expecting.

Social Media has changed the world and the way we are viewed.  People can “Like” you but not like you. They can “Follow” you but have never been anywhere near you.

We now have to market ourselves on this medium, even on our personal pages where people can search us out. It is the new way of communicating without leaving your armchair. I had found a new “Friend”.

Why have I decided she is a Rock Star?

She started small, by making short but informative posts in a Facebook Group that I am a member.  By being useful to people she got her name known and out there.  Then she decided to do a training video for people struggling with something she knew about. It wasn’t earth shattering or life changing, but it was completely useful for me, who was thirsting for learning as a novice in this business.

It was actually unbelievably beneficial for quite a few people who were in the same boat as me. So she made a series of training videos all on different aspects of this subject, but wait for it…she gave them all away for FREE.

Just when you think she has given all she’s got – she comes up with a way for her tribe to connect with each other and thus further sharing has begun. Her tribe is called “No desk required”. It’s for people who want to earn a living and not be tied to one location.

Now that she has built her community. You would think she would try to sell us something.  Maybe she is just a genius marketer and we are all going to throw our money at her in the future. She does tell a fabulous story of going from living in a tent with £10 to making a six-figure income in less than 2 years.

I am going to follow this Rock Star because she has given me courage, and vision and shared her expertise.

Now it is time to build my tribe of sharing, caring, loving people.
